Collected four rounds later, not on the way out the door
A club feels wonderful in a bay. What matters is whether it still feels that way on the twelfth hole with a bad lie and a breeze.
The 3-wood I had been defending for six years lost to a 7-wood on the board and it was not close. I felt slightly foolish for about a day. Now it is the club I reach for on every second-shot par five and I have stopped topping them.
Priya spent twenty minutes proving that my 6-iron and 7-iron flew the same distance. I had been carrying a duplicate club for two seasons without noticing. The fix cost me one shaft and a bend, not a new set.
I walked in ready to buy a full set and walked out with a lie angle adjustment and a bill under sixty dollars. They could have taken two thousand from me that afternoon and I would never have known the difference.
Sixty-three years old and I had been fighting a stiff shaft in my driver because a shop told me regular was for beginners. Wes put me in something lighter, my ball speed went up, and my back stopped hurting on Sundays.
The turf board photographs are what sold me. Two hybrids that felt identical in my hands left completely different marks. You cannot argue with a scuff.
My daughter is fourteen and growing about an inch a season. They fitted her with that in mind, built in room to extend, and told me plainly when to come back. No attempt to sell her adult clubs she would outgrow.
Terrance asked which courses I play and then talked about the sand in the bunkers at each of them. I have never had an equipment conversation that specific. The wedge he built me works in the sand I actually play out of.
I brought in a set of irons from 2004 expecting to be laughed at. They measured everything, told me the heads were fine and the shafts were done, and reshafted the lot for less than a third of what new irons would have cost.
Jenna cut two centimetres off my putter and changed nothing else. Three putts a round disappeared. I am still slightly annoyed about how simple it was.
They told me my driver was already right and refunded nothing, which is exactly correct because the bench time was worth it. Knowing the equipment is not the problem is worth a hundred and thirty-five dollars.
How These Are Collected
Every golfer gets a call or a note four rounds after their build. We ask what changed, what did not, and whether anything feels wrong. The answers get printed with permission and names are used as the golfer gave them.
The Unhappy Ones
They exist. Two builds in the past three seasons came back for a second attempt because we read a delivery wrong the first time. Both were corrected without charge and both golfers are still clients. We would rather say that here than pretend it never happens.
